It really doesnt. I havent exactly been taken care of my yard and there are a lot of bees, wasps and red wasp moths. I pointed the speaker with the app on right in front of one and it just kept on doing what it was doing it didnt effect them

The app doesn't repel bees! It ATTARCTS them. Or at least it attracts all of my local bees.

I pointed the speaker towards the bee and it seemed to act a bit awkwardly, although I think it was more annoying to me than it was for the bee.

This definitely works. Tried it several times. When I switch it on, the wasps go crazy and fly away. I used it on a Bluetooth external speaker from JBL. The down side is you can't use it continuously as the high frequency sound will give to a headache.
