Ce croquis est proposé dans le cadre d’un apprentissage basé sur une progression du collège jusqu’au Bac. Dans la mesure du possible, les exercices sont choisis de manière à être réutilisés tout au long de la scolarité de la 4e au Bac voire Post Bac.
Le présent croquis répond aux exigences des directives de l’inspection générale puisque pour le thème 1 – L’urbanisation du monde – dans le programme de géographie des classes de 4e, il est mentionné : « La mise ne perspective des cas étudiés se fait au moyen de planisphères : les villes étudiées sont replacées sur la carte des grandes métropoles mondiales et des grands réseaux ou flux mondiaux. On peut ainsi faire ressortir l’expansion mondiale du phénomène d’urbanisation, sa croissance différenciée et son inégale distribution, mais également éclairer sur un plan cartographique, l’idée d’un réseau de villes mondiales, en relation les unes avec les autres, qui sont aux commandes de la mondialisation. […] La réalisation de croquis et de schémas simples peuvent permettre à l’élève de travailler le langage graphique et de remobiliser des repères.».
Dès lors, nous pouvons proposer un croquis simple (pour des 4e, réutilisable jusqu’au Bac voire Post Bac) intitulé « Croissance et hiérarchie urbaines dans le monde».
Sur la base d’une cartographie de la variation de la population urbaine mondiale entre 1961 et 2014 – à voir sur le logiciel gratuit « Carto_Flash_Prof_SDLV Espace mondial » téléchargeable sur le site : http://www.geographie-muniga.org – nous pouvons dégager les inégales croissances. Puis, avec ce même logiciel et le tableau de données statistiques (ci-dessous) nous pouvons localiser les principales métropoles qui forment l’archipel métropolitain mondial, celles qui sont des « Global Cities », celles qui sont des villes relais de la mondialisation et enfin celles qui ont plus de 18 millions d’habitants et, peut-être, promise à un rôle plus important. Ainsi nous feront apparaitre la hiérarchie urbaine mondiale.

C’est ce que nous allons vous proposer avec cette méthodologie complète, pas à pas, d’après le plan classique suivant :
