RYA Books for Android
Extremely inconvenient app. Slow, lagging, does not have any features that an ordinary eBook reader app has, and even the features it has are poorly implemented. Waste of time.
RYA App, what a sheer waste of effort. Only use if you've lost the will to live
Perhaps the red-trousered buffers at RYA House should leave app development to people who know something about it.
Won't even open on my tablet - Samsung Note Pro 12
Don't bother installing this app until they fix it. Will not run. Just hangs up.
Disaster
Installed app try to open it and it just hangs on the splash screen. Cannot continue with my course until the rya sort this. Shame it can't be rated in minus stars.
Doesn't even open...
Do not see the point of this. Lists books you can buy or free publications you can get online. Very poor.
Crashes on start screen.
Crashes on loading screen
But, unfortunately, that's where it stops. Forever! On my Galaxy Tab 2.
Never successfully loaded just crashed my Sony xperia z
Books are excellent and development team works hard to resolve any issues.
App is big and interface clumsy. Books are pretty useless when downloaded as they insist on presenting as complete pages, making text too small and reading columns a messy, slow and inaccurate business. Developers must realise that ebooks are not the same as paper books and traditional layout rules do not apply. Try, try again.
Crashed on a Samsung tab3, never got past the title page
Bravo
Gets stuck on some pages on kitcat. Start screen takes a few minutes on nexus 7 lollipop. Given that books are not particularly cheap, I don't think this level of quality is acceptable.
Was disappointed to find that the books are essentially pdf versions with some additional multi-media content. As with most pdf readers it doesn't flow text within the screen constraints. This means that to read a page on a mini tablet I find I have to put the device in landscape, resize the text to the size of the screen to make it readable and then scroll down as I read and this needs to be done for each page. They have also priced the ebooks at the same price as the printed versions, presumably justified by the extra multi-media content, but I think they would be better of offering a version that reflects the lower cost of the medium, or at least offering a free copy with each paper copy of the book. Essentially once you have a draft proofed copy of a manuscript the cost of e-publication is minimal.
Fantastic app by a great, well known name. Glad to see it on Android! Particularly like the rules and regs edition and the browsing feature within it. :)
High hopes for the app until the DRM system kicked in. Having all books in my catalogue together would be really useful whilst away from home enjoying the sport that they refer to. Problem is faced when I updated my email on the publishers account database. Subsequent purchases are tagged against the new email and original purchased library is tagged against a different original email address. To access purchased content I have now to login under two seperate logins. This approach is not taken by my kindle and so it is evident that the technology exists for this problem not to happen. Very disappointed UPDATE - The very professional staff at RYA HQ have consolidated my purchases into one account and so now that problem has been resolved and my library is again whole. DRM aside the benefits of my library being highly portable and available in such a convenient format deserves to be recognised and so amending the points from 1 to 4. (Would be a five if no DRM, such as is available at oreilly.com, another major online eBook retailer). Really useful app all in all and looking forward to more titles being available in eBook form.
I found it easy to use and, informative! Downloaded fine for me.
Ill happily buy RYA books, excellent quality....but why pay such a cost for any downloads in this format?Free sample I downloaded was 1 page!!!! hardly the best way to advertise this product. Also having initially downloaded a sample no prompts/instruction on how to then read it! Ill stick to KINDLE for my books unless this apps prices reduce and user front end improves.
I followed the appropriate links that I expected would allow me to download the ebook on to three devices. However, after installing on one device (Nexus 7), when I try to install on a second device (Windows PC) I receive the error message: No eligible devices for app install. £11.49 for one device is too high a price IMHO. -P-
Does not have any form of obvious navigation and the links to navigation in the help section do not appear to exist. Wasted an hour or so trying to download a pre-paid e.book. Uninstalled.
