About TrailMapps: Rotorua

Rotorua, New Zealand’s best trail map for mountain bikers, runners and walkers.

·No data required after the app is downloaded, uses the phone’s GPS to show you where you are on the map.
·Local guide and grade information on all the trails, tap on a trail and go straight to it on the map.
·0-1-2-3 star rating system showing you which trails are rated highest and which trails to leave for later
·Make the most of your visit by riding one of the suggested routes
·New trails added to the app via frequent updates – no need to wait for a new paper map to come out to find the freshest new trails!
·Route maps for selected competitive events so you can replicate or practise the courses.
·In an emergency hit the app’s location button and instantly see the GPS co-ordinates of your location. These can be read out to the ambulance dispatcher, allowing the medics to get to you fast.

Rotorua’s trails are truely amazing, built with flow and style to bring a grin to every face. The dirt here includes some volcanic pumice which means even when it’s raining, the trails stay mostly dry. This is the place dreams are made of. The Whakarewarewa trail network is what Maori call ‘taonga’ or treasure. As BIKE magazine’s Mike Ferrintino wrote, “This haven of geysers and mudpools is, and always has been, New Zealand’s meeting point between tourism and Maori culture. Not that we had the chance to notice, sucked immediately as we were into the ferny lush of the local forest, onto trails built by mountain bikers with mountain bikers in mind. Trails in verdant shade that dip weave and roll. Trails that snake through the trees in a way that makes hard riders hoot with joy yet at the same time could coax a huge grin to the face of a 70-year-old granma on her first bike ride ever. Candy Land. A lucky utopia. Sure gawk at the geysers, wrinkle your nose at the sulphury mud holes, soak in the hot springs, buy greenstone trinkets, but get down on your knees and kiss the mulchy earth of these trails because they are the true hidden treasure here”.

To view event overlays:
1) First go to the overview map, then choose the Whakarewarewa map from the overview map and hit the 'Zoom To' button...
2) Once the Whaka map loads up, hit the Search Button (magnifying glass) and choose 'Find Rides'
3) Select the Giant 2w stages near the bottom of the list. This will draw the start/finish and route overlay on the map.

I used to love this app. Would have given it 5 stars. But why have they removed the track side on profile preview to identify if they are dh am or cc tracks?

Like the app. However my friend has an iPhone and it seems to have a more up to date map and my one is not. Please release an up to date map for android. Thanks

Really good app but expensive. The splash screen is really annoying - I didn't buy this app to see what is essentially an advertisement.

There is a timer/clock now in an update that I'm trying to pick up....

H70%

A bit surprised the recent update wasn't used as an opportunity to remove ad for race series which finished months ago...

Updates required more frequently. Time Warp has been reopened for a number of weeks and still shows as closed to logging. Makes us hard to plan loops. Main reason for my purchase was emergency location which available on trailforks app for free. I'm hoping we don't have the same issues with the new season of 2W race maps.

Please update with new trail info. This app is becoming costly for something with outdated info

Awsome!!!!!!! But were r the new 2w trail updates and a few new tracks havent been updated on the app either

Great little app. Im just learning the trails down there and this has all the info I need out on the trail plus GPS tells me where I actually am. There are probably other things this app could have added but it's totally worth the price as it is.

I noticed seve trails missing, the yellow brick road return loop 'taura' (been sign posted for months) and the new track off hot cross buns. I bought it as it said more up to date than the paper maps.... Not impressed

Even after the update I still cant see the 2w overlays. Poor form. (It's also unfortunate for those of us who paid for the app to view the 2w stages, I'm not saying it's a crap app in fact it's quite slick. However it was money wasted in this case. And why can we still not see the Feb 2w overlays.. 36hours rolled by a long time ago)

I finally got the update but app is still showing the Dec 2w. Never been an issue before though.

X70%

No important logging updates makes this app dangerous for people to use. No updates on new trails (i.e. Mr Black at Skyline 4 months ago now).

I still haven't had the update for Saturdays stages. I'm running Kitkat on a Samsung S4. Apart from the update glitch the app is awesome for any newbies wanting to get around the forest.

Being a local, I don't need the App for maps but got it for the 'early' release of 2W Gravity maps. Seen the maps on Facebook and Txt from a mate with a iPhone while I am still waiting for Play Store to say there's an update. Always have issues with updating the App on Android. At the moment it's a waste of money.

After selecting a ride. Didnt have an issue prior to update. Can you fix this please. Other than that I dig this app

I used to love this app for an overview of the forest and if I was to accidentally end up on an unfamiliar trail I could hit the gps button. Now there are red circles all over the place hiding the trails. I just can't see how this is better than just hitting the search button to find out what a trail is like. Bad update

Downloaded this before first day on the trails and as a map it is handy to have in your pocket. The GPS location feature is also good. However: The blurb states There is both a scale and a star rating system. I can find neither and I have uninstalled and reloaded. The elevation chart for maps is missing off the 'i" button on the map but is on most of the "find track" option from menu? The app also occasionally refuses to shut down. and the screen sometimes takes seconds before it allows you to zoom. Also I know this is only marketed as a map but it can't be to hard to put a snail trail tracker for where you have been and total distance travelled. For newbies some more info would be appreciated with regard to how the best way to get to the top trails is. And maybe some suggested routes down for differing skill levels. Maybe expecting a bit much but paying $14 for an app you expect it to deliver.

Makes being up on the trails so much more stress free and makes it a hole lot easier to get from trail to trail. great work guy's keep it up best trail mapping system for rotorua so far.

Just perfect for riding in the forest.

Y70%

A great resource. It is a bit weird how it doesn't visually cache the map, so it refines as you move around which is a minor annoyance.

E70%
by E####:

I spend hours looking at this app at home, it's a great reference tool, but it's also awesome on the trail with the built in GPS feature. Far more up to date than any of the printed maps. A must have for riding in the Redwoods. My only compliant is in the trail search section the buttons to display the trail info are too fiddly they need to be bigger and therefore easier to open. Too many times I end up back at the map instead of the trail info.

Great app, very handy for exploring trails further out.

Awesome app. What's with lots of the less popular trails (Soakhole, Club Trail, Chestnut Link 1) having 'not recommended' in the descriptions?! Also its 'Gunna Gotta' not 'Gonna Gotta' =)
