About Locals' Guide to North Shore

Locals' Guide to North Shore Rides

Vancouver’s North Shore trails are technically challenging, but there are those days when it all comes together and the results are magic. This inherent ongoing challenge fuels our passion and makes it our favourite place to ride.

The present Shore is very different from the original days. Organizations like the North Shore Mountain Bike Association (NSMBA) and local governments such as the District of North Vancouver and Metro Vancouver, work together to formalize, maintain and grow the existing trail network. The current challenge is to expand the mountain bike trail diversity to provide more accessible trails that will attract riders of all abilities. If it’s one thing the ‘Shore’ is lacking, it is easier trails, but everybody will find something fun to ride.

This guide gives you two locals’ perspective on the North Shore trail network, and we have made an effort to describe a wide range of trails that can accommodate all skill levels. Rides are presented in a graduated skill and time/length format. We also encourage you to explore on your own, and find your best routes!

App Features Include:
-See your location on the maps
-Trail descriptions, ratings, and lengths
-Zoom-to trail from list
-Recommended ride descriptions, profiles, and route overlays
-Overview map of the North Shore which includes hiking trails

I traded in the hardcopy book for the app, but I've noticed the "rides" are missing from the app version.

Thanks for getting the update done. Just thought I would mention the link to twin bridges is also closed due to the slide. And also most of the trailmapps apps I use have lost the recommended rides. Pemberton seems to be the only one still with them?

I find the red 'i' buttons on top of each trail rather annoying. On dense trail networks such as the Shore the trails are close together, which means that all you see is a sea of red buttons instead of the actual trail network or topographic contours. Suggestion: make the trail names clickable and if you want to make this action more discoverable for users then include a quick 'first run' experience, maybe a pop-up that appears the first time the user opens the app that informs him that he/she can tap on the trails to get more info.

Thanks for lowering the price today, I wouldn't have tried this otherwise. Just some comments on useability... The rides seem to be missing. When I got the book, I used them a lot. Was loads of fun. Part of the local knowledge is putting together rides not just knowing the individual trails. Also the main screen doesn't fit the resolution of my phone and scrolls instead. I have the book too, will take a closer look and hopefully newer trails are updated in the app.

I am a north shore local and bought this app mostly for the cypress area trails which I am less familiar with. I live in the Seymour area and was quite disappointed at how out of date the Seymour and fromme maps are. Some friends who have iPhones recommended the app and it seems the iPhone version is more up to date than the android. (Eg. Android version still shows the trail "aftertaste" but iPhone shows "forever after" which has been built for a couple years now) A map is only useful if it is accurate.

This is great app! Was waiting for the andriid version! But what would make it better would be if you could tap the name of a trail on the map and the trail description would open up. Also I noticed that not all trails have descriptions. It would be good if all the trails had descriptions.
