About Kana Trainer

The Kana Trainer is an application for everyone who studies Japanese to quickly memorize the hiragana and katakana syllabaries. It allows to train basic and composite symbols (total 204).

Quiz exercise:
The application is build on the principles of a memory game that presents a character and five different possible answers. It can be configured to do hiragana, katakana or a mix of both. Also the direction: kana to romaji or romaji to kana can be chosen.

Writing exercise:
A second part allows to practice writing with the finger or a stylus (e.g. Wacom Bamboo) on the display. Once finished it can be compared to the original including the correct stroke order. Through this active participation the memorization effect is even stronger.

Statistics:
A statistics view gives the learner a better insight into the learning progress. It is also a good thing to stay motivated.

Character Table:
Finally there is a handy character table for both Hiragana and Katakana with Romaji and stroke animation.

It needs another app to run, which would've been useful to know in advance. Giving it 4 stars because it does seem like a great app.

Dont get me wrong I love the app. But can you please add a filter such as a-to or ka-mo excluding na-to, for both memory amd written. Then this will be the best thing for Japanese learners. Also, it would be great if katakana would be implemented in at least the memory game, I understand that the written part takes a lot more work. Other than that, for the wrjtten, I love how you can self-score,, because most apps that score you aren't accurate

I would like it if there was some sort of correct/incorrect sounds in the memory game. And the option to turn these sounds on/off. Also, a setting available to make he chars larger in the boxes. And, maybe the app could retain stats in a eay that allows the user to see (hopefully) a positive trend in ability to recognize or write the kana

Useful if you can already recognise *all* the hiragana characters. Not so useful for absolute beginners since you can't filter them.
