Gappy Learns Reading for Android
My kids have outgrown this and but they still like playing Gappy and collecting the items to redesign his home.
Hello there! My son loves this so much. But now he cannot find the home button . Maybe because of the 4:3 aspect ratio of his Xiaomi Mi Pad 2. Is there anything I can do to fix this issue? Thanks in advance.
My three-year-olds both love this app, which is very well written and is easy to use (they quickly learned to navigate their own way around it). A word is presented with one or more letters missing and a voice prompts the child to select the appropriate letters from the top. The dragging works very smoothly and, once the word is complete, the Gappy character crosses the bridge. After a few correct words, Gappy wins a new item to decorate his house with. I've previously used Montessori Words For Kids, but this is better: by presenting only a few letters, rather than the whole alphabet, it is easier for young fingers to select and drag the right letter. There is also more game-play to keep children engaged. My suggestions for making it even better would be to have: - an option for the voice to sound the letters phonetically, rather than naming them; - an option for the target word to be spoken in full _before_ the child starts selecting letters; and - a UK accent option. But overall it's great. Get it!
Our 3yo loves the game and is learning phonics and reading along the way. Worth the purchase.
Both my five and three year old children are enjoying this. Lovely clear speech, and very intuitive for kids to navigate. I've just noticed in the description that you can switch letter case, haven't tried that yet!

My son loves building the housing. There are only four backgrounds though which I think is a shame because after the fourth level he feels like he has completed the game. I would try to mix these up a bit. More seriously some words are very unusual and not pronounced very clearly, i.e. LAG sounds like LEG on the recording to my and my son´t ears. Still a nice game but perhaps better for American´s than English.
