Expedição Oriente

Antes mesmo de retornar de sua primeira grande expedição, a volta ao mundo realizada entre 1984 e 1994, os Schurmann já sabiam qual seria sua próxima aventura em alto-mar: refazer a rota do navegador português Fernão de Magalhães, que em 1517 comandou aquela que é considerada a primeira circum-navegação do globo.

A Magalhães Global Adventure, segunda expedição da família, exigiu uma preparação de três anos e foi concluída no ano 2000, quando seu último trecho (Lisboa, Portugal - Porto Seguro, Brasil) fez parte das comemorações oficiais pelos 500 anos do Descobrimento do Brasil.

Além do amor pelo mar e por tanto reviver quanto escrever capítulos da História, o que leva a Família Schurmann a velejar pelo mundo também é a vontade de descobrir. Quando a Teoria 1421 capturou a atenção do mundo e iniciou um caloroso debate em 2002 ao propor que foram embarcações chinesas, não europeias (como os livros de História descrevem), as primeiras a chegar à América e a circum-navegar o globo, os Schurmann sabiam que só havia uma forma de ir mais a fundo no assunto. Assim nasceu a Expedição Oriente, uma busca por respostas que talvez só possam ser encontradas sob a perspectiva oriental desse mistério.
