British Museum Guide for Android
Lovely idea. Some grammatical errors, eg: "the museum was found in 1759", actually, it was founded in 1759; the two words make an enormous difference to the meaning and understanding of when it was established, ie, FOUNDED. Also, were the Anglo-Saxons descendants of the Vikings? I think not. If you can navigate around basic errors like these, then it is a very useful app. I purchased the upgrade via Amazon, so won't be doing so through Google. Unless you have a way around that.
Pointess rubbish. Map was useless and a few reasonable photos I guess. Ok maybe I should have got the paid app. But why offer that free rubbish in the first place.
Was happy to pay for an app that would give me more info on the museum. However, I found it very confusing and difficult to use. When the museum is busy, which is most of time, there isn't the space to go wandering around trying to find an object that you have no clue to its location in the numbered room. Having the case number on the item picture would make the app actually useable and worth the money. As it was, I spent an hour trying to locate all the items in the trail then left in frustration!
Doesn't tell you much about the special exhibitions. I'd like to know which galleries they're in before I get there as I want to head straight to the exhibition.
I've spent my money for nothing. Application is awful
U have to pay!! Why make it free
Pointless to provide a free app that only asks you to buy.

The free version was NOT helpful.
The only app available of a great treasure trove of artifacts. Archeologists now use 3D photos to fully display objects. Some of the photos are in HD but not nearly enough. Clearly this app was designed as a walk around guide to navigating the museum. I was hoping for an app that offered a true virtual tour. As it is, the price is a bit steep.
It prompts for payment at the very beginning. No additional information other than what is already there alongside exhibits.
Some pictures and a map. But for anything useful it sends you to the website.
Very useful guide for the museum.. the descriptions were thoughtful and entertaining..
Dnt install wast data & time
Good if your a pea brain
Really good if you are at school

Nice app
"020415...thanks..."
Utter rubbish! Don't waste your time or data downloading. Flat, boring, uninspiring. All the things this app could be and even the map is of no use. No way will I pay to "unlock" more of this.
A great resource of information.
Thank you so much for the quick fix for S3!!! :) Now everything works prefectly. This super handy app has all necessary info so you no longer need to carry all the heavy guide books or loan the audio guides when tour around the museum. Highly recommended for all who planning a visit to British Museum! Great application, excellent team. Thank you!
Great app
This app is truly brilliant, combining a useful map with detailed information on many objects (often more detailed then the physical signs accompanying the exhibits). A few small issues like the fact that the app doesn't auto rotate based on screen orientation. Also, it would be nice if related Wikipedia articles were available from within the app to flesh out the context of the objects. All in all this app is definitely worth downloading before a visit to the British Museum
For people who are entirely new to the museum this handy app would be of great use. Provides full floor plan overview of the structure including short description of each artifact available.
I love this museum but its sheer size means finding where specific artefacts are housed difficult despite the ever helpful attendants. This app goes a long way to solving this with clear mapping, inclusion of other important items in various areas and clear, concise information on featured artefacts. Five stars if the search engine can be extended generically, so an interest in, say Medieval coins or the politically sensitive Elgin marbles can be located.
Boring app with crappy Egyptian artifacts pretty lame. No interesting stuff like alien artifacts or weird animals. Oh wait stuff like that is hidden from us.
Even though it says "free," when you install it, it says it is a trial version before purchase
As a member of the museum this is perfect, but would be equally great for any visitor.
Sadly this app doesnt seem to work on my sony Xperia S the app opens but after the loading screen it just closes itself.
There's nothing wrong with this app in terms of the interface and how it works. However, one would probably do better to rent the media player from the desk in the main entrance hall. It is better laid out and most of the content is in audio form. It is better to hear someone read about an object while you are looking at it.
Layout was rough but almost tolerable, the thing I couldn't deal with was that 90% of the exhibits descriptions were grayed out unless you buy the unlocked version.
good app
A worthwhile companion for any adult or child interested in ancient history, especially Egypt..
The new version has fixed many of the small improvements that was needed for the app and it is looking really awesome
I found this app to be very poor. It was not easy to locate the objects described by using the app. Although I bought the full version, many halls had no information about the location of the featured objects. Having wasted around 15 minutes in Hall 1 trying to make sense of the app, I simply gave up. Recently I visited the RIjksmuseum in Amsterdam with my brother and we used their app to take a two hour audio/visual tour of their main exhibits. It was superb. Learn from this, please!
I was hoping for a audio tour guide that tells me the details and history of each item as I move around. I am sure that explanation text is provided for each item exhibited in the museum I do not need an app for that. Giving me the 20 or 100 best items in a museum is hardly an app. Disappointing. Just found Rick Steves audio tour for the museum and it is exactly what I wanted.
This reminds me of good memories visiting the British museum. It is a spectacular place. However in the app the images are disappointly small. It would be amazing if it were immersive and had bigger images like the Sites in 3d app. I would be happy to pay for a true virtual museum tour.
Really informative app, loads of illustrations etc. Well worth the price.
