About Near Sighted VR Augmented Aid

NearSighted -VR Augmented Aid

Are you legally blind? Do you have low vision or can only see things up close ? Then this app might be for you. NearSight is an application that works with your phone and the OpenDive VR display or any DIY VR displays. It uses the camera on your phone and displays the front image to the phone screen in stereoscopic. We feel that with time we can develop more devices and/or applications which will help people with visual or eye disabilities.

What you need for the App:
1. An Android phone
2. A head mount display compatible with a phone screen

Start up the app and it's good to go. Tap the center of the screen to bring up the touch screen menu or use a Bluetooth controller to zoom and adjust the display.

I wondered what possibilities virtual reality could have for people who have low vision or visual impairments. I'm glad to see I wasn't alone in my thinking. Hopefully this keeps up. There needs to be an affordable type of esight device and cellphones have so many capabilities. Battery is an issue but couldn't that be rectified with a specific headset fof the phone. Just like oculus. Or Samsung vr headset. That could be attached to a battery pack. Either way, right direction !

TERRIBLE. I tried this because it's the only split-screen camera i can find, and suddenly the whole world was minecraft, a tree ten feet away was pixellated to heck and back, and my screen (a foot and a half away) is completely unreadable. I had to take it off so i could type this review, nevermind READING.

Coming from a near sighted person, this works great! I would try to fix how everything is seen in the dark, but otherwise this is a good app!

Bullshit

I am visually impaired, and this is a really good idea for an app. Once it's setup and working, it seems to work pretty well (obviously limited by the quality of your phone camera). However, the control UI is pretty clunky, it should really be usable with the headset on. For example, pressing the magnetic button on the Cardboard should bring up the menu and a centered cursor, then point at the options and click to activate them. Also, there seems to be a bug where the NFC tag on Cardboard freezes the app.

Amazing little tool,

I was expecting an app that would make other VR apps less blurry for nearsighted folks, but it actually is an app to help those who are nearsighted see in real life by letting them see through their phone's camera. I have no doubts that this app would help with that problem, as long as the phone's display is 4K. Anything below that and the image would look pixelated. Uninstalled anyway because the app was not what I was looking for.

K70%
by K####:

I like it. My only problem is the small things are really pixilated, such as words. If you could look into that and make it better, that will help in more ways than one.

My brother uses this daily it helps him because he is visually impaired and he uses it to see things that he could not see before. This makes all of our family happy to see him see some things for the first time.

I've installed this on my Galaxy S7 and found it to be awful resolution, can't read anything using it as it's all blocky and bad. I tried a VR camera app and the resolution on that is amazing so I'm not sure why this doesn't work... I zoomed out all the way and it's still poor

Z70%
by Z####:

Add a dimmer/brightness control and perhaps some sort of black & white/color toggle with some contrast control, there too, and I think this app will be the new way to correct vision - once the wearable tech catches up and slims down, which it's rapidly doing now. Please consider these additions. 5 star app, once they're included. - I had been trying to find someone to collaborate with on this very concept for some time now. Also - take advantage of laser/range sensors to integrate gesture controlled zoom?

Q70%

My friend has macular degeneration and I turned him on to your app. He was comparing this to the very expensive optical device that acts similar. This is incredible thing you have done here. Can you make the digital zoom go up to 16x? This application could change a lot of people's lives for the better. I hope you can accomodate thanks! (phones be used are a s6 and s7)

V70%

Not sure if it can be fixed but the zoom is too pixelated compared to the normal camera zoom. Good ideas though!

C70%

I am visually impaired and cannot wait to use this app during meetings and speeches. I miss a lot especially people's expressions. This app does help but I would love to see more zoom features

Z70%
by Z####:

There's not enough zoom, only 4x. Wheres update to zoom with volume buttons? App would be more useful with this function and more zoom, color schemes (yellow on black, white on black etc) nice idea needs improvement.

It has potential, but it didn't really help. It would be great if we could use volume buttons to zoom in and out.

I'm not near sighted and I doubt this would help much if I was, but it still felt neat to be walking around my apartment with this on. Kind of felt like I was in a dream.
