Lesson 4 - The Second Square

The perfect square principle is a fundamental element of the game. You could say that it is the manifestation of the rule of half’s in different dimensions. It can be applied from long rail to long rail and also from short rail to short rail and is the basis for the implementation of systems in reverse mode, either by attacking the first ball or playing rail first on the second ball.

This lesson discusses the applications of this principle and anticipates the changes that occur when playing from the second square positions. It also introduces the relationship between the long and short rails; the double application of the rule of half’s in cross table plays, the rule of division between the three, the inverted effect and the double perfect square result.

The Change of effect or inverted english plays use the combination of two systems. This basic system is the primary system used in this kind of moves. Usually, the secondary system is a system for plays around the table with effect. Lesson 6 analyzes every detail of this kind of plays.
