RPM Tachometer & Shift Light for Cars and Helicopters is a part of CIRI project - free CIRI RPM Tachometer & Shift Light version – it shows rpm (engine speed) and shift light (screen blinks yellow at rpm you set) using acoustic Z-transform. It can be used for cars (any engine type) and for helicopters (for 2-5 blades, 1-4 rotors).
IMPORTANT: It may not work properly in phones or tablets with voice filtering or voice improvement systems. In some cases such options can be switched off from phone "Settings" menu. For example it doesn't work properly with HTC EVO 3D (microfone's lowband is filtered by phone)
CIRI - Car Intelligent Recorder and Interpreter is a tool that listens to a working engine. Engine's mechanical complexity gives a symphony of sound. CIRI identifies those oddball sounds and helps you sort out which conditions you can let slide and which ones mean repairs—and how fast you need to make them. By modern analysis and CIRI Cloud Server processing and comparing to known sounds and malfunctions of engine it looks for problems before they occur. It can be also used as RPM meter (tachometer) with shift-light function.
Usage:
1. After starting CIRI RPM Tachometer, please select your car parameters (or similar car), check if cylinder count is correct for your car.
2. Click Auto at "sensitivity" or correct sensitivity to have no results (0 rpm) in your car, when silence.
3. Set shift light rpm (if you need that)
4. Start engine, enjoy.

Fantastic! Was able to measure rpm of a 9 blade electric cooling fan used in a car by selecting helicopter mode, 3 rotors, 3 blades. However, sometimes app stops updating rpm and hangs on my Galaxy s3. Upgrade message when hitting record is annoying.

It don't have my car, or any that have my engine. When I try to update the list all I get is s decryption failure error. And when I try my other car it shows 2 to 4 thousand RPM. With the car off and in quiet surroundings. Uninstalling from my Galaxy Note 3.

Works ok on my HTC Evo. Reads fairly accurate on my diesel engine, however the reading seems to be affected once my turbocharger becomes audible. Wish the app had the option for single cylinder, and for two stroke engines. Guage readout is nice.

For one, there was NO Civic D15B2 engine, not even a 1.5L engine on the list at all. Another thing, this rpm gauge says my car was running around 3400 rpms at a low steady idle, and when I barely revved it, it showed 7800+. My honda's got a rev limiter, and I believe it's at about 6000. WTF?

Interface looks great, but it seems completely unable to get a coherent reading from my RC Helicopter. The tach either floats randomly around 1500 RPM with the helo running or not, or doesn't register anything if I turn down the gain. Moto RAZR MAXX HD
